Grafting Tape Substitute Unique
Question is is anyone using an alternative to parafilm.
Grafting tape substitute. I wondered if i could use grocery store plastic bags. I d do the same if replacing the parafilm with budding tape or paper tape or black plastic but might consider a coating to help reduce drying. I think i am going to graft my seedlings.
For good reason i think my wife would kill me if i ordered a new roll of parafilm. Parafilm is not suitable for all types of grafting. I hate to order more and wait.
I want to graft some trees but can t find grafting tape to buy near where i live. I have toilet ring wax but i have been using the parafilm to wrap the scion and to cover the split area before putting on wax so that the wax wouldn t get in the healing area. I am on a time limit so i can t order it.
For some others i use. No wax or compounds necessary. You don t say what you are grafting but i ve had my best success on apple pear and plum using a rubber to bring the parts together and then wrapping with parafilm.
I can t get grafting tape locally and everywhere i see online to order it it is too expensive for me because they want you to buy alot or just because it is expensive. Trying to get my last two apple grafts in very late but better than never and have misplaced my parafilm. I m doing cleft grafts.
This makes it useful for grafts that require tight wrapping. I saw where marie uses transparent tape but i have read about special grafting tape. I have found vinyl grafting tape useful for t budding and patch budding.
